Tours of Historic Castroville Castroville Garden Club w (830) 931-2262 Enjoy a scenic walking tour by the many historic Alsatian style homes and buildings. Minimum of 15 persons per tour. Step-on tours available on your van or bus. Please schedule your tour two weeks in advance.
100 Karm St. w (830) 538-3142 Museum hours: M- F 9 am - 5 pm, & Sat. 10 am – 2 pm Come visit the Alsatian house originally built in Wahlbach, France between 1618 and 1648. The house was relocated to Castroville in 1998 and has made history ever since. Walk around the second floor museum complete with period furniture donated by the people of Alsace. It is truly a step back in time.
Landmark Inn State Historical Site and Bed & Breakfast 402 Florence St. w (830) 931-2133 Hours: Daily 8 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Daily visitors can tour the Inn exhibit area and then take a self-guided walk of the historic grounds. One hour guided tours available daily at 3pm or by appointment. Please call in advance to schedule a tour at a different time, or to schedule a group tour. Overnight bed and breakfasts guests enjoy one of 11 historic guest rooms, furnished in antiques and rich in old-world charm. A continental breakfast is included.
610 Madrid St w (830) 931-2826 The third church to house the ever-growing St. Louis parish community, built between 1868 and 1870 under the organization of Father Peter Richard. The first church still stands near Moye Center. Each August, St. Louis Catholic Church hosts the “Granddaddy of all Church Festivals,” St. Louis Day.

Retreat Center A century-old original convent of the Sisters of Divine Providence. This landmark boasts beautiful and peaceful grounds and is the home of the first St. Louis Church, built in 1844, just 8 days after Castroville was settled.

While you’re there pick up some delicious treats from Castroville’s famous Alsatian Bakery. They specialize in homemade bread, pastries, cakes, pies & cookies.
3980 FM 471 N w Rio Medina, TX w (830) 538-2441 Hours: M-Sat 8am - 5:30pm, Sun 11am – 4pm The past lives on in the Rio Medina General Store. Since its origination in the early 1900's, it has been in continuous operation. The store still remains the center of this small community. Groceries, fresh and dry Alsatian sausage and parisa, made locally, homemade sandwiches, cold old-timey sodas, hardware, farm and ranch supplies, antiques and collectibles and a full-service post office make this a one-stop shopping experience just like when your grandparents were kids.

816 Alsace St.It is an old European custom for a village to proclaim its faith by erecting a cross in a prominent place, and the Alsatians brought the tradition with them when they came to the Medina Valley. Since then it has been called Cross Hill and was used by the Catholics in earlier times for pilgrimages and prayer petitions, such as Rogation Days. Today you can walk a path up to Cross Hill to enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of Castroville.

Medina Lake & Dam Approx. 8 miles north of Castroville Take FM 471 N to FM 1283, turn left and continue 9 miles to Medina Dam Take a walk across the Medina Dam for a spectacular view of Medina Lake and Medina River below. Water skiers love the calm waters of Medina Lake and its many covers. Boat ramps are located near the dam and public launching is available at the State Park. See page 51 for more information.

The museum is dedicated to the preservation, perpetuation and exhibition of vintage aircraft, historical aviation items, antique automobiles and early 20th century farming equipment and gasoline engines. The museum provides an educational opportunity for visitors with fully operational exhibits. Some events held throughout the year include: Military Uniform Display, Aviation Art Show, Christmas Toy Show and Bluebonnet Walk.
Medina County Museum 2202 18th St. w Hondo, Texas Tours by appointment are available at any time. The Medina County Museum has over 2,000 items on display portraying the frontier beginnings of Medina County. The Museum is housed in the old Southern Pacific Depot, built in 1893 in Hondo, which served this area for many years. The “Hondo Depot” received a Texas Historical Marker in 1980. The museum has a 1913 steam engine which powered the D’Hanis Brick and Tile factory for 74 years. This engine is the only one of its kind in the State of Texas still in operable condition and may be the only one in the United States. The building housing this rare engine is constructed of brick from the factory it powered for so many years. Another attraction is the old Rothe one-room School House.
